Yogi Adityanath Hails Asmita Deys Historic Commonwealth Games Gold

Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - India's first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medal in judo has drawn praise from across the country. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led the tributes, congratulating UP Police Sub-Inspector Asmita Dey for her historic triumph in the women's 48kg event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

In a post on X, Yogi Adityanath said Asmita Dey had brought glory to "Maa Bharati" with her remarkable achievement and described her victory as a symbol of courage, discipline, determination and hard work. Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak also congratulated the 23-year-old judoka, while Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna praised her for scripting history and highlighted the state's support for athletes through the UP Police sports quota.

Asmita Dey defeated Canada's Heidi Quach in a thrilling golden score contest after staging a spirited comeback in the final. Despite trailing early in the bout, she fought back with determination to secure a memorable victory and become the first Indian judoka to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal since judo was introduced at the Games in 1990.

Asmita Dey's historic gold has not only created a new milestone for Indian judo but has also inspired athletes across the country. Her achievement marks a proud moment for India and adds another golden chapter to the nation's Commonwealth Games campaign.
