Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - India's Shilpa K Shyla secured a dramatic bronze medal in the women's shot put F57 event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after a successful protest by the Indian contingent overturned the result in Glasgow.
Shilpa had thrown a personal-best 7.26m and was initially pushed to fourth after Nigeria's defending champion Eucharia Iyiazi registered an 8.19m throw. India challenged the validity of the attempt, and following a review, officials ruled the throw a foul, leaving Iyiazi without a valid mark.
The revised standings elevated Shilpa to the bronze medal position, completing a double podium finish for India. Sharmila Dhankar won gold with a season-best 9.81m, while Ghana's Zinabu Issah claimed silver with 8.65m.
The upgraded bronze marked a memorable Commonwealth Games debut for Shilpa, turning what appeared to be a fourth-place finish into one of India's most dramatic medals of the tournament.
