Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - India's Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal in the men's javelin throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a best throw of 85.83m. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage claimed gold with 89.75m, while India's Yash Vir Singh secured bronze, giving India a historic double podium finish.
Neeraj began the final with a throw of 80.97m before improving to 85.83m in his second attempt to take the lead. However, Pathirage responded with a massive throw of 89.75m, which remained unbeaten throughout the competition. Neeraj was unable to improve in his remaining attempts and settled for silver, while Yash Vir Singh finished third with 85.41m. Rohit Yadav placed seventh, and Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem finished ninth.
The silver medal is Neeraj's second Commonwealth Games medal after winning gold at the 2018 Gold Coast Games. The event also marked the first time that two Indian athletes finished on the podium in the men's javelin throw at the Commonwealth Games.
Although Neeraj Chopra could not defend his Commonwealth title, his silver medal and India's historic double podium finish highlighted another memorable performance for Indian athletics in Glasgow.
