The latest exchange adds to a rapidly escalating cycle of attacks and counterattacks in the Gulf.

According to reports, the U.S. launched fresh strikes after renewed attacks on shipping near the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway that has become a central flashpoint in the conflict. Iranian sources and regional reporting indicate that the strikes hit western Iran, while the broader confrontation remains tied to disputes over the strait, sanctions and the ceasefire’s legitimacy. The U.S. and Iran are both accusing each other of violating the terms of the ceasefire, making even small maritime incidents politically significant.
