Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - Brazilian star Neymar has officially announced his retirement from international football, ending a historic career with the national team after Brazil's World Cup campaign ended in defeat to Norway.
The 34-year-old, Brazil's all-time leading goalscorer, confirmed that the World Cup match was his last in the famous yellow jersey. Battling an injury throughout the tournament, Neymar returned as a substitute in the knockout match and scored a late penalty, but Brazil was knocked out.
Speaking after Santos' victory over Universidad Central, Neymar said he had given everything for Brazil and was leaving the national team with pride. He also dismissed recent reports of dressing-room tensions, accusing sections of the media of taking his comments out of context.
Neymar's retirement brings the curtain down on one of Brazil's greatest international careers, leaving behind a remarkable legacy as the country's record goalscorer.
