Tamblyn shared a 2024 Newsweek article, which detailed Kirk's past discussions where he and co-hosts speculated on whether murderers should face public executions and if children should attend. Her post, on September 11, included the phrase "Wish granted," and reportedly mocked the possibility that Kirk's three-year-old daughter might have witnessed the "horrific shooting".

The reaction online was swift and furious. Social media users condemned Tamblyn, with comments calling her "a tremendous piece of s**t" and "an ugly, ugly person". Many accused her of having "no souls" and sinking to new lows, lamenting "liberal" vitriol. Turning Point USA, the organisation Kirk founded at 18, issued a heartfelt tribute, remembering him as a "leader, a mentor, and a friend" with "overwhelming passion for life."
