Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - 14 people were killed in fresh U.S. strikes on Iran, hours after Donald Trump said Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz meant the fragile ceasefire was effectively over. Tehran then retaliated against Gulf sites, while the delayed burial of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei remained another sign of how deeply the conflict is still shaping Iran’s political and security decisions.
The latest strikes mark another escalation in the U.S.-Iran confrontation, which has repeatedly spilled into the Strait of Hormuz and nearby Gulf routes. Trump has argued that Iranian attacks on shipping amount to a breach of the ceasefire and has treated the framework as broken, even while leaving the door open to negotiations. That leaves the conflict in a dangerous place: diplomacy is technically still alive, but military retaliation keeps resetting the crisis.
Khamenei’s burial has also become part of the wider war story. According to reports, the funeral and burial were pushed back because of security concerns, the scale of public mourning and the threat of further attacks during a volatile conflict. State media had previously indicated that the ceremonies would be spread across Tehran, Qom and Mashhad, but the timeline was repeatedly disrupted by the fighting.
The reported deaths from the latest U.S. strikes, Iran’s retaliation and the continuing delay to Khamenei’s burial all point to a conflict that is still far from settling into any stable pause. For now, the ceasefire looks increasingly fragile, and every new attack appears to deepen both the military and political crisis.
