Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - Netherlands captain Scott Edwards has stepped down from the ODI captaincy after leading the team for over four years. Fast-bowling all-rounder Bas de Leede will now captain the side for the remainder of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 campaign.
Edwards, who took over the role in June 2022, captained the Netherlands in 56 ODIs, guiding the team to 24 victories. His tenure included memorable wins over South Africa and Bangladesh during the 2023 ODI World Cup. Announcing his decision to teammates, the 29-year-old said he wanted to focus on contributing more as a player and felt it was the right time to step aside.
The wicketkeeper-batter also led the Dutch side in 50 T20Is, with notable victories over Zimbabwe and South Africa at the 2022 T20 World Cup. Bas de Leede, 26, has now been appointed captain and thanked Edwards for his leadership and faith in the squad.
With the Netherlands currently second in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 standings, the team will look to continue its strong campaign under new captain Bas de Leede while Edwards remains an important member of the squad.
