Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - Ahmedabad will officially take over as the host city of the 2030 Commonwealth Games during the closing ceremony of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games in Scotland on Sunday. The city will receive the Commonwealth Games flag and the King's Baton, marking the formal handover ahead of the Games' centenary edition.

The handover ceremony will feature three acts, beginning with a tribute to the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, followed by a unique musical collaboration between Indian sitar maestro Rishabh Rikhiram Sharma and Scottish piper Ross Ainslie. The final act will showcase India's rich culture with a special focus on Gujarat.

The King's Baton Relay, a long-standing Commonwealth Games tradition, will also begin its journey towards Ahmedabad 2030. For the first time, all 74 Commonwealth nations and territories will receive their own customised baton, reflecting their unique culture and heritage.

The ceremonial handover will officially launch the road to Ahmedabad 2030, which will mark 100 years of the Commonwealth Games, while offering the world a first glimpse of India's vision for the historic centenary edition.
