Bengaluru, August 23 — Royal Challengers Bangalore’s historic first Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2025 has been credited not only to the team’s performance but also to the leadership dynamics within the squad. Skipper Rajat Patidar has revealed that senior player Virat Kohli played a crucial role in empowering his captaincy throughout the season.
Speaking after the win, Patidar said it was “brilliant to have Virat’s blessing,” noting that the former RCB captain’s constant support allowed him to take bold decisions without hesitation. “Virat never interfered but always stood by me. That gave me the confidence to trust my instincts,” Patidar added.
RCB, often considered one of the strongest franchises never to have won the IPL until this year, finally ended its long wait by clinching the 2025 trophy. Patidar, who was appointed captain ahead of the season, led from the front with consistent performances. Kohli, meanwhile, anchored the batting lineup and acted as a mentor to the younger players.
Team insiders said Kohli’s experience, combined with Patidar’s fresh approach, created a balanced leadership environment. Former cricketers also praised Kohli for showing maturity in embracing a supporting role and helping RCB adapt to high-pressure situations.
The franchise’s maiden title has been celebrated widely by fans, marking the end of a 17-year drought. With Patidar now firmly established as captain and Kohli’s mentorship continuing, RCB hopes to build on its success in the seasons ahead.
