Bangladesh's pace attack made full use of the conditions to rattle the visitors. Taskin Ahmed struck in the opening over, dismissing Matthew Short for a duck. Mustafizur Rahman then delivered a double-wicket maiden, removing Cooper Connolly with the first ball of his over and Matt Renshaw with the last, leaving Australia reeling at 0/3. The collapse placed Australia in an unwanted record book, becoming only the fourth team in men's ODI history to slip to 0/3. Their first run came via a no-ball, highlighting the dominance of Bangladesh's seamers in the early stages.

Earlier, Australia captain Josh Inglis won the toss and elected to bat first, expressing confidence in his side while announcing Riley Meredith's inclusion in place of Liam Scott.

Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz praised his team's performance and stressed the need for stronger batting partnerships. He also confirmed the inclusion of experienced all-rounder Soumya Sarkar in place of Saif Hassan. With the hosts seizing early control, Australia were left searching for a way back after a record-breaking top-order collapse.
