India's captain, Rohit Sharma, has ascended to the second position in the latest ICC Men's One-Day International (ODI) batting rankings. This significant rise comes despite the 38-year-old having not played any competitive cricket since the 2025 IPL season. The updated rankings, released on 13 August 2025, show Sharma dethroning Pakistan's Babar Azam, who has slipped to number three after a series of low scores in the recently concluded ODI series against the West Indies in the Caribbean.
Shubman Gill firmly holds the number one position in the rankings with 784 points. Rohit Sharma now boasts 756 rating points, placing him 28 points behind Gill, while Babar Azam is close behind with 751 points in third place.
Former India captain Virat Kohli remains in fourth position with 736 points. India continues to show a strong presence in the top 15 of the men's ODI batting rankings, with Shreyas Iyer at eighth place and wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul occupying fifteenth.
Both Rohit and Kohli last featured in ODIs during India’s victorious Champions Trophy campaign and had previously retired from Test cricket midway through the 2025 IPL season. This notable ascent for Rohit occurs amidst ongoing discussions about his and Kohli's cricketing futures.
