Colombo – Pakistan’s fielding woes came into sharp focus after their defeat to Afghanistan in the ongoing Asia Cup, with statistics highlighting a troubling record of missed chances.
According to match data, Pakistan dropped three catches and misfielded on several occasions, directly contributing to Afghanistan’s successful run chase. Analysts noted that these lapses not only shifted the momentum but also exposed a recurring weakness in Pakistan’s white-ball cricket.
Fielding coach and senior team management faced criticism as numbers showed Pakistan have dropped over 20 catches in their last 10 ODIs, one of the highest among top cricketing nations. Experts pointed out that the problem is systemic, with poor fitness standards and lack of concentration in pressure situations cited as key reasons.
Former cricketers said Pakistan’s inability to back its bowlers with sharp fielding continues to hurt the team. “You can’t win big tournaments if you give away so many chances,” a former captain remarked.
The latest defeat has intensified scrutiny ahead of Pakistan’s remaining Asia Cup fixtures, with calls for urgent corrective measures. Fans on social media also vented frustration, demanding accountability from the players and coaching staff.
