Desk Correspondent , Imphal - Security forces in Manipur arrested two militants , including Maibam Ronaldo, and a police havildar named Elangbam Surjit from their residences in Thoubal district on Monday. In a coordinated operation along the Indo-Myanmar border in Kamjong district, authorities seized 16 mortar shells, six RPG rounds, five hand grenades, two AK-47 rifles and 416 live rounds of ammunition. The arrests targeted active members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Ibungo Ngangom) faction, as part of intensified counter-insurgency efforts, officials said. A service pistol with 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition was also recovered from the halildar, attached the Kakching district commando unit.
In a separate account, security forces arrested an active cadre of the banned Revolutionary People's Front/People's Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) From Assam's Hojai district with help from Assam Police. The cadre was involved in extortion activities and is a co-accused in a case registered at Manipur’s Jiribam police station. The operations were conducted through search and area domination in vulnerable border regions.
Separately, forces recovered several country-made arms, an improvised mortar and a hand grenade from between Tingpibung and Leplen villages in Kangpokpi district’s Saikul police station area. A senior police officer said similar operations would continue to maintain law and order, adding that the situation remained normal in the last 24 hours.
