Ananya Lohia , Dehradun - Relentless rainfall across Uttarakhand has disrupted road connectivity and forced the suspension of the Char Dham Yatra for two days. A newly constructed bridge on the Dehradun–Paonta Sahib Highway also collapsed following heavy rain.
The bridge, built at a cost of ₹16 crore and inaugurated just 17 days ago, collapsed between Prem Nagar and Nanda Ki Chowki after continuous rainfall. Officials have begun restoration work and said the highway is expected to reopen once debris is cleared.
The Char Dham Yatra has been suspended for Tuesday and Wednesday due to heavy rain and landslides along the pilgrimage routes. The Kedarnath Highway was also affected after rocks and debris fell in the Munkatiya area, prompting road-clearing operations and heightened safety measures for pilgrims.
Authorities are closely monitoring the weather and road conditions. The Char Dham Yatra will resume only after routes are declared safe, while restoration work continues on affected roads across the state.
