Ananya Lohia , Assam - The flood situation in Assam showed signs of improvement on Sunday as water levels receded across several affected areas. However, more than 6.5 lakh people continue to face the impact of the floods, while the death toll from this year's deluge has climbed to 66.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), floodwaters have started receding in most parts of Upper Assam, particularly in Charaideo, Sivasagar and Jorhat districts, where there was no significant overnight rainfall. The improving conditions have raised hopes for faster relief and rehabilitation efforts in the affected regions.

Despite the easing flood situation, thousands of families remain displaced, with homes, roads and agricultural land still under water in several areas. Authorities continue relief and rescue operations while closely monitoring river levels, as the state remains vulnerable to fresh flooding if heavy rainfall returns.

Although Assam is gradually recovering from one of its worst flood spells this year, the crisis is far from over, with lakhs of people still awaiting relief and rehabilitation as authorities remain on high alert.
