The Opposition has officially announced Sudershan Reddy as its nominee for the upcoming vice presidential election, setting the stage for a direct contest with the ruling party’s candidate, CP Radhakrishnan.
Leaders from the Opposition camp said Reddy’s candidature was finalized after several rounds of discussion among alliance members. They highlighted his long public service record and commitment to democratic values as reasons behind his selection.
The ruling party had earlier named CP Radhakrishnan, a senior leader with decades of political experience, as its choice for the post. With both candidates now declared, the election is expected to see a clear political battle.
The vice presidential poll is scheduled to take place soon, and both sides are preparing to reach out to members of Parliament who form the electoral college. While the ruling party enjoys numerical strength, the Opposition has stated that putting forward a candidate like Reddy is important to uphold democratic contest and present an alternative voice.
This announcement adds momentum to the political climate, as parties gear up for what is expected to be a keenly watched election.
