Ranit Kr. Singh , Kolkata - The Kolkata Police’s Gang Suppression Wing has arrested a vendor, Paritosh Dutta, from Burdwan in connection with the recent recovery of firearms and burnt currency at Surendranath College. Dutta was apprehended following a formal complaint filed at the Muchipara police station on Wednesday, which named both him and Debashis Banerjee, a prominent member of the college’s governing body. The investigation intensified after a large cache of firearms was uncovered from the institution's union room last Tuesday night, sending shockwaves through the local academic community.
According to police and college sources, Dutta operated as a primary vendor responsible for supplying various essential items to the institution and maintained close ties with Banerjee. The duo came under intense scrutiny after a double discovery at the campus: first, a massive amount of mysteriously burnt currency notes, followed shortly by the hidden stockpile of weapons. The back-to-back incidents have triggered widespread allegations of corruption and administrative negligence, raising serious questions about the internal security and the true role of influential insiders within the college administration.
With the primary suspect now in custody, the Gang Suppression Wing is actively interrogating Dutta to trace the origin of the recovered weapons and determine how deep the illicit network runs. Investigators are currently focusing on the exact nature of the relationship between the vendor and the governing body member, as well as the source of the burnt funds. Further raids are expected as law enforcement authorities look to apprehend Banerjee and uncover the full extent of the criminal activities operating out of the campus.
