Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that all government schools in the state will remain closed from October 8 to October 18. This decision allows teachers to participate in the ongoing statewide socio-economic and educational survey, which has been extended to complete pending work.
The survey, initiated on September 22, was originally scheduled to conclude on October 7. However, due to incomplete data collection in several districts, the government has extended the survey period by 12 days. In Koppal district, 97% of the survey work has been completed, while Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have completed only 63%.
Approximately 120,000 teachers and 60,000 other officials are involved in the survey. To accommodate this, the government has declared school holidays for teachers, except those engaged in II PUC exam duties. Officials in Bengaluru have been instructed to complete the survey before Diwali.
