India has taken a major step forward in its semiconductor journey with the unveiling of Vikram 32, the country’s first indigenously developed space-grade microprocessor. The chip was presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Semicon India 2025 event, marking a milestone for India’s technology and space sectors.
Developed by Indian scientists and engineers, Vikram 32 is designed to meet the rigorous demands of space applications. It is expected to strengthen India’s self-reliance in critical semiconductor technology, reducing dependence on foreign imports. The processor has been built to handle extreme conditions such as high radiation and temperature variations, making it suitable for satellites and future space exploration missions.
The Prime Minister lauded the achievement, calling it a symbol of India’s growing capabilities in the semiconductor field and a boost to the country’s vision of becoming a global hub for advanced chip manufacturing. Industry experts believe the launch of Vikram 32 will also encourage private investment and research collaborations in the semiconductor ecosystem.
With this breakthrough, India has joined a select group of nations capable of producing high-end processors for space and defence, further strengthening its position in the global technology landscape.
