Delhi NCR experienced sudden heavy rainfall and a dust storm on Monday, bringing much needed relief from the humid weather but also causing disruption across the region. Strong winds accompanied by intense showers led to waterlogging in several areas and slowed down traffic during peak hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the downpour is expected to continue for at least an hour, with the possibility of more spells later in the day. Officials have also warned of reduced visibility on roads due to the combination of rain and dust.
Flight operations at Delhi airport were briefly affected, with some delays reported. Metro services continued without major issues, though passenger movement slowed as people sought shelter at stations during the storm.
Residents welcomed the cooler weather after days of rising temperatures, but civic authorities advised caution, especially while commuting. Emergency teams have been put on alert to address any incidents of fallen trees, waterlogging or damage caused by the storm.
The weather department has predicted that more light to moderate showers are likely in parts of Delhi NCR over the next 24 hours.
