He allegedly used that position to extract ₹4 lakh in illegal gratification from a citizen seeking a routine service. On Monday, March 31, the Central Bureau of Investigation moved to end his extraction. After registering a case and laying a precise, evidence-backed trap, CBI agents caught Colonel Abhishek Mishra red-handed while accepting the bribe. He has been arrested. The uniform, the title, and the authority of his office were, in the eyes of India's premier investigative agency, no protection at all.
Colonel Abhishek Mishra, MCD Deputy Commissioner, was arrested by the CBI Anti Corruption Branch on March 31, 2026, in a sting for demanding and accepting ₹4 lakh in bribes, caught red‑handed during a monitored trap operation under the Prevention of Corruption Act, his office and residence are being searched for possible wider extortion, and the MCD is expected to initiate suspension and dismissal proceedings, adding to a series of 2026 CBI arrests in Delhi, including a Delhi Police ASI for ₹10 lakh, two head constables for ₹20,000, and a South Eastern Railway officer for 10% of ₹8.7 lakh pending bills, following earlier MCD graft cases such as a 2025 Najafgarh Junior Engineer arrest over a ₹3‑crore bribe demand.
Colonel Abhishek Mishra’s arrest follows standard CBI procedure: complaint received, case registered, trap laid, and arrest made. But the deeper concern is that an officer of his seniority allegedly felt entitled and confident enough to take a bribe, revealing a culture where corruption is so entrenched that even the risk of a CBI sting fails to deter. Without consistent prosecutions, strict penalties, and reforms to eliminate extortion opportunities, such traps will remain necessary cures, while true prevention stays out of reach.
