Desk Correspondent , Kolkata - A major fire broke out at Ananda Lok Hospital in Kolkata Salt Lake area on Tuesday morning, April 21, triggered panic among patients and staff. Swift action by emergency services ensured that nearly 70 patients were safely evacuated, preventing any loss of life in the accident.
According to present reports, the fire is believed to have started on the second- floor of the hospital, possibly due to a short circuit in an air-conditioning unit near the operation theatre. Thick smoke rapidly spread through the building, creating a chaotic situation inside the facility. To ensure safety, the hospital elevators were immediately shut down, and the patients were relocated to another Ananda Lok facility in the nearby blocks. Around 70 patients were admitted to the hospital at the time of the incidents. The hospital authorities informed all patients are safe, and 15-20 people moved in the initial minutes of fire. Power supply in the affected section was cut off as a precautionary measure, and firefighters worked intensively to bring the blaze control and clear the smoke. Officials have confirmed that no casualties and injuries have taken place during the accident. All people are evacuated safely from the hospital.
The timely response of the fire department and hospital staff averted what could have been a major tragedy. The incident has once again raised serious concerns over fire safety preparedness in hospitals, highlighting the urgent need for strict compliance with safety protocols to prevent such emergencies in the future.
