Shivani Jaiswal , Kolkata - August 17, 2026: The NCC and NSS units of Victoria Institution (College), in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organised a series of vibrant programmes from August 9 to 17 to mark the "Har GharTiranga" campaign, a joint initiative of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal.
Dr Maitreyi Ray Kanjilal, Principal, Victoria Institution (College), inaugurated the programme. The week began with an online lecture on Indian Independence, followed by a quiz competition on India's freedom movement that drew enthusiastic participation from students. A poster display centred on the theme of Indian Independence showcased students' creativity and historical awareness, while NSS volunteers conducted a community awareness programme to spread the campaign's message beyond the campus.
Students and teachers also took part in the independence rally organised by the government on 10th August near Akashbani Bhavan. In a solemn moment, staff and students together took a pledge for a "Nasha-mukt Bharat" (Drug-Free India), reaffirming their commitment to a healthier society. The programme also featured a soul-stirring rendition of the national song "Bande Mataram," followed by the ceremonial flag hoisting, an NCC parade, and a cultural programme jointly presented by NSS volunteers and NCC cadets on 15th August.
Teachers, non-teaching staff along with students also participated in the Independence Day Rally organised by the Government of West Bengal at Red Road on August 15th.
The celebrations concluded on August 17 with students preparing an elaborate rangoli on the theme of Indian Independence, adding a colourful and artistic finale to the week-long observance.
The initiative fostered a strong sense of national pride and unity among the institution's students and staff, reflecting the true spirit of the "Har Ghar Tiranga" movement.
