Energy infrastructure major Adani Energy Solutions has signed an agreement to acquire smart metering company IntelliSmart Infrastructure for approximately ₹3,050 crore, marking a significant step in strengthening its position in India's rapidly growing digital power distribution sector.
The acquisition is expected to enhance Adani Energy's capabilities in the deployment and management of smart meters, a key component of the country's efforts to modernize electricity distribution networks. Smart meters enable real-time monitoring of power consumption, improve billing accuracy, reduce transmission losses, and support efficient energy management.
Industry observers view the deal as a strategic move that aligns with the government's push for large-scale smart meter installations under power sector reforms. By integrating IntelliSmart's operations and expertise, Adani Energy aims to expand its footprint in the advanced metering infrastructure market and support utilities in improving operational efficiency.
Company officials stated that the transaction will help accelerate the adoption of digital solutions in the power sector while strengthening service delivery to electricity consumers. The acquisition is also expected to create opportunities for technological innovation and improved data-driven management of energy networks.
Market analysts noted that demand for smart metering solutions has been rising steadily as utilities seek to reduce losses, enhance revenue collection, and improve consumer services. The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and completion conditions.
With the latest acquisition, Adani Energy is positioning itself to play a larger role in India's ongoing power sector transformation, where digital technologies are becoming increasingly important in ensuring reliable and efficient electricity distribution across the country.
