Former India opener Virender Sehwag has shared a candid account of a fiery confrontation with teammate Rahul Dravid during their playing days, revealing how tensions once boiled over in the dressing room.
Speaking on a podcast, Sehwag recounted an incident when a disagreement during a match led him to issue a blunt warning to Dravid, who was then one of India’s senior-most cricketers. “I told him clearly — ‘Tell your coach not to come near me,’” Sehwag recalled, adding that emotions often ran high in the high-pressure environment of international cricket.
The exchange reportedly stemmed from differences over batting approach and on-field strategy. Sehwag, known for his fearless style, admitted that his aggressive nature sometimes led to clashes with teammates. “It wasn’t personal. I always respected Rahul bhai, but in that moment, I wanted to make my point very clear,” he said.
Despite such episodes, Sehwag emphasised that professional disagreements never impacted team unity. “Once we left the ground, everything was normal. We played as one unit for India,” he added.
Rahul Dravid, currently India’s head coach, has not commented on the anecdote. The revelation has sparked discussions among fans about the intensity of dressing-room dynamics during India’s golden era of cricket.
Sehwag’s frank admission highlights the competitive spirit that defined India’s cricket stars of the 2000s, who, despite internal disagreements, came together to deliver some of the country’s most memorable victories.
