Ananya Lohia , Delhi - The investigation into the death of actor Twisha Sharma intensified on Saturday after a Bhopal court sent her husband and prime accused Samarth Singh to seven days of police remand. The Madhya Pradesh government has also handed over the case to the CBI, while the high court ordered a second autopsy by an expert AIIMS Delhi team.
Twisha Sharma, 32, was found dead at her home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, less than six months after her marriage. Her family has accused Singh and his relatives of dowry harassment and abuse. Samarth Singh, a lawyer, had withdrawn his anticipatory bail plea and later attempted to surrender before a Jabalpur court, which refused his plea. He was then taken into custody by Bhopal police and produced before a court after a medical examination. The Bar Council of India has also suspended his licence to practice law. Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh High Court directed AIIMS Bhopal to conduct a second post-mortem in the presence of expert doctors from AIIMS Delhi. Justice AK Singh clarified that the order was not meant to question the first autopsy but to remove all doubts since the death occurred within six months of marriage.
The state government has officially transferred the probe to the CBI under the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946. Sharma’s family has also challenged the interim bail granted to Singh’s mother, retired judge Giribala Singh.
With the CBI now investigating the case and a second autopsy ordered under court supervision, the Twisha Sharma death case has become one of the most closely watched cases in Madhya Pradesh. The findings of the fresh investigation and medical examination are expected to be crucial in determining the truth behind the actor’s death.
