Ananya Lohia , Murshidabad - A tragic accident unfolded in West Bengal's Murshidabad district on Friday morning when a passenger train rammed into a school van at a level crossing, killing three people, including two children, and leaving five others injured.
The collision took place around 6:41 am at Level Crossing Gate No. 24A/2 on the Katwa–Azimganj railway section. The Tata Sumo, carrying students of Royal Academy School, entered the crossing after one train had passed but was struck by the approaching Nimtita–Katwa Passenger train. A bicycle was also hit in the incident.
The impact left the van badly damaged, triggering panic in the area. Railway Protection Force personnel, Government Railway Police, senior railway officials and local authorities rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, while additional personnel were deployed to manage the situation.
Railway authorities have ordered an inquiry into the incident to ascertain how the accident occurred. Rescue and restoration work is underway, with officials assuring that necessary action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
