State-run fuel retailers in India have once again increased petrol and diesel prices, marking the third revision this month, as global crude oil costs remain elevated due to the ongoing Iran-linked geopolitical tensions.
According to dealers, the latest adjustment is modest—less than ₹1 per litre—but adds to a series of recent hikes that reflect growing pressure on domestic fuel pricing. The move is aimed at helping oil marketing companies recover losses that have built up as international crude prices stay high.
Industry sources say state-owned companies such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum have been absorbing significant under-recoveries in recent weeks. The gradual price revisions are being seen as an effort to balance consumer impact while easing financial strain on fuel retailers.
The recent increases come amid continued volatility in global energy markets, where supply concerns linked to West Asia have pushed crude oil prices higher, impacting import-dependent economies like India.
With this latest revision, fuel prices have now seen multiple small increases within a short span, signalling a phased pass-through of international costs to domestic consumers.
