Delhi witnessed heavy rainfall through the day, bringing both relief from the recent heat and major disruptions across the city. The showers, which began in the morning, intensified during peak hours, leaving several roads waterlogged and slowing traffic to a crawl in multiple parts of the capital.
Areas such as Lajpat Nagar, RK Puram, Lodhi Road, and the Delhi–Haryana border experienced severe waterlogging, making movement difficult for commuters. On the Outer Ring Road near Subroto Park, long traffic jams were reported as vehicles struggled through flooded stretches.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the city, warning of more intense rain in the coming days. Officials have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to take precautions, especially in low-lying areas prone to flooding.
The downpour also affected flight schedules, with several departures delayed due to poor visibility and water accumulation on airport access roads. Many daily commuters turned to metro services to avoid road chaos, leading to crowded trains during rush hours.
While the rain has brought temperatures down, providing a welcome break from the heat, it is expected to continue over the weekend. Authorities are on alert as the wet spell may impact Independence Day celebrations and other public events.
Residents are advised to check weather updates regularly and plan their travel accordingly to avoid getting stuck in affected areas.
