Ananya Lohia , Delhi - A shocking incident at a government school in Delhi's Hari Nagar has raised fresh concerns over the safety of the midday meal scheme after a dead lizard was allegedly found in food being served to students.
The meal, consisting of rice and chana dal supplied by an NGO, had reportedly been inspected and tasted by education officials before distribution. However, during the lunch break, a school helper discovered a dead lizard inside one of the containers, forcing authorities to immediately stop serving the food.
Police rushed to the school, secured the spot, collected food samples and the dead lizard as evidence, and began an investigation. Officials confirmed that no student fell ill after consuming the meal, but the incident has sparked serious questions over food quality and hygiene standards.
An FIR has been registered against unknown persons under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for endangering life. Authorities are now investigating how the contaminated food reached the students despite multiple checks before distribution.
