Ananya Lohia , Kolkata - The peaceful suburb of Baruipur in South 24 Parganas district was plunged into chaos following the horrific kidnapping, sexual assault, and murder of a 12-year-old minor. The victim went missing on Saturday afternoon after leaving her home to purchase food from which she never returned. Her body was retrieved from a local pond the following morning, sparking severe public fury that quickly escalated into vigilante violence and widespread rioting across the locality.
A preliminary postmortem examination uncovered a series of gruesome injuries, confirming the extreme physical torture the young girl endured before her death. The autopsy reports detailed severe trauma to her private parts, extensive scratch and bite marks across her body, and a catastrophic head injury caused by a heavy object or surface impact. Crucially, forensic doctors found water inside her lungs and stomach, indicating she was still conscious and breathing when thrown into the pond.
In response, a six-member Special Investigation Team has been formed to spearhead the probe, leading to the arrest of the prime accused along with two accomplices, while three others remain detained. Authorities have also recovered CCTV footage tracking the area that shows four men carrying the victim away, and four separate cases have been filed to cover the rape-murder, the subsequent lynching, and the local rioting.
To prevent further communal flare-ups and maintain public order, the state administration has clamped down on the region by enforcing prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Additional police battalions have been heavily stationed across Baruipur. Politically, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has personally assured the victim's family of an uncompromised trial. As the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) steps in to corroborate forensic evidence, the victim's father has firmly demanded capital punishment for all individuals involved in the heinous crime.
