Ananya Lohia , Mumbai - The legal dispute over late businessman Sunjay Kapur’s estate has taken another turn, with his widow Priya Sachdev approaching the Delhi High Court seeking permission to use his EPF funds for the education expenses of Samaira and Kiaan, the children he shared with actor Karisma Kapoor.
On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court issued notice on Priya’s plea seeking partial modification of its April 30 interim order that froze Sunjay Kapur’s assets amid the ongoing inheritance battle. While the earlier order barred transfer or liquidation of assets, it allowed exceptions for essential expenses related to his children. Priya has now sought explicit permission to withdraw money from Sunjay’s Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) accounts to pay school fees and academic expenses of Samaira and Kiaan. Her legal team clarified that the funds would only be used for educational purposes.
The matter gained attention earlier when Karisma Kapoor’s legal team alleged that Samaira’s college fees had not been paid by the estate managers. Priya later denied the claim and submitted receipts in court showing that nearly ₹95 lakh per semester had already been paid. Sunjay Kapur died in England on June 12, 2025, after collapsing during a polo match. He was 53. Following his death, a bitter legal fight erupted after his children reportedly alleged that Priya forged his will. The Delhi High Court had earlier directed Priya to preserve all assets, citing suspicious circumstances surrounding the alleged will that reportedly left the entire estate to her. Priya is also locked in a separate legal battle with Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur.
With tensions continuing within the Kapur family, the Supreme Court has advised all parties to resolve the matter amicably while keeping the well-being of Sunjay Kapur’s elderly mother in mind.
