Authorities have concluded that no criminal offence was committed in a complaint filed against producer Ekta Kapoor regarding allegations that one of her web series “insulted” an Indian Army soldier.
The case stemmed from a petition accusing the series of portraying the armed forces in a negative manner. Police said they examined the content, witness statements, and legal provisions before determining that the material did not meet the threshold for criminality under the law.
The complainant had alleged that the series’ depiction hurt the sentiments of soldiers and their families. However, investigators stated that artistic expression and fictional portrayal cannot be deemed a criminal act unless it directly violates specific legal provisions.
With the findings, the matter is likely to be closed unless challenged in court. Ekta Kapoor, a prominent television and film producer, has previously faced criticism over certain content but has maintained that her work falls within the scope of creative freedom.
