Namit Malhotra says Adipurush failure won’t affect Ramayana: If audiences dislike it, we’ll apologise with folded hands

Desk Correspondent , Mumbai - Director Nitesh Tiwari is preparing for the release of his ambitious mythological epic Ramayana, one of the costliest Indian film projects ever made. Ahead of the film’s release, producer Namit Malhotra addressed concerns around audience expectations and comparisons with the failed 2023 adaptation Adipurush.

During an interaction with creators and YouTubers on the sets of Ramayana, Namit Malhotra was asked whether the backlash faced by Adipurush made him anxious about audience reactions to the upcoming film. Responding candidly, the producer said every film has its own journey and that the team is focused only on delivering their best work. “We are focused on doing the best in what we can do. If audiences like it, that’s great. If they don’t, we will fold our hands and apologise,” he said, adding that ups and downs are a part of filmmaking.

Directed by Om Raut, Adipurush starred Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan, but received severe criticism over its dialogues, VFX and portrayal of mythological characters despite its massive budget. Meanwhile, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman.

Backed by a reported budget of nearly ₹4000 crore, Ramayana is being mounted on a grand scale and is expected to be one of the biggest Indian film releases in recent years. While comparisons with Adipurush continue, the makers remain confident about their vision as the first part gears up for a Diwali 2026 release.
