Desk Correspondent , Chennai - MS Dhoni may not have officially announced his retirement from the IPL, but his emotional words after Chennai Super Kings’ final home game of IPL 2026 have left fans worried. After missing the entire season due to a calf injury, Dhoni joined the CSK squad for a lap of honour at Chepauk following their defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad. The moment felt emotional for fans, many of whom feared it could be Dhoni’s silent farewell in yellow.
Speaking on Star Sports, former CSK star Suresh Raina revealed an emotional conversation he had with Dhoni during the lap of honour. Raina told Dhoni that IPL 2026 should not count as a farewell season because he did not play a single match. He urged the former captain to return next year. However, Dhoni replied quietly, saying, “My body is a little weak.” Raina admitted that Dhoni did not completely rule out a comeback and responded with a hopeful “let me see,” giving CSK fans a small reason to believe he might return for IPL 2027. Still, Dhoni’s words hinted that fitness and injuries may now be the biggest challenge in continuing his cricket journey.
Dhoni remained out for the entire IPL 2026 season because of a calf injury, despite attempts to recover during the tournament. CSK coach Stephen Fleming had earlier stated that the franchise was carefully managing Dhoni’s condition to avoid further setbacks. But by the time CSK played their final home match at Chepauk, Dhoni’s return never happened.
There was no official retirement speech, no emotional announcement and no final goodbye from Dhoni at Chepauk. Yet, his quiet admission about his body feeling weak made the night deeply emotional for CSK fans. While Raina and supporters continue to hope for one last comeback, the uncertainty surrounding Dhoni’s future in the IPL now feels stronger than ever.
