Ananya Lohia , Delhi - Speculation over Rohit Sharma's ODI future has intensified after a report claimed the third and final ODI against England at Lord's on Sunday could be the veteran opener's last international appearance for Team India. However, neither the BCCI nor Rohit Sharma has officially confirmed the reports.
According to a report by The Indian Express, selectors have reportedly informed the 39-year-old that he is no longer part of India's long-term ODI plans beyond the England tour, leaving the final decision on his future to the cricketer. The rumours come amid Rohit's recent struggle for runs. He scored just 11 in the first ODI against England and managed 26 off 47 balls in the second match.
Although he registered scores of 79, 48 and 16 in the ODI series against Afghanistan, his inconsistent performances, ordinary IPL campaign and fitness concerns have raised questions over his future. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has also been under scrutiny, though the former India captain responded with a composed 65 in the second ODI. Both senior batters continue to face pressure as India begins planning for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
With no official statement from the BCCI or Rohit Sharma, the retirement reports remain speculative. All eyes will now be on Lord's, where the final ODI is expected to draw added attention as fans await clarity on the future of one of India's greatest ODI captains.
