Ananya Lohia , Mumbai - More than 30 years after Khal Nayak became one of Bollywood’s most iconic crime dramas, the film’s legendary rivalry is returning to the big screen. Jackie Shroff has confirmed that he will reunite with Sanjay Dutt for Khalnayak Returns, the sequel to the 1993 blockbuster directed by Subhash Ghai.
In the original film, Jackie Shroff played Inspector Ram, the cop assigned to capture Sanjay Dutt’s iconic anti-hero Ballu Balram. Confirming his return, Jackie expressed excitement about reuniting with Sanjay Dutt and hinted that his character has now become a police commissioner. The actor also revealed that discussions regarding the sequel have already taken place with Subhash Ghai and Sanjay Dutt. Interestingly, the idea for Khalnayak Returns reportedly began during Dutt’s stay at Yerwada Central Jail, where he interacted with inmates about whether Ballu’s story should continue. Dutt even encouraged inmates to write concepts imagining Ballu’s life years later, which eventually helped shape the sequel’s storyline.
The film is now being developed on a larger scale under Sanjay Dutt’s production banner Three Dimension Motion Pictures and Aspect Entertainment, with Subhash Ghai remaining creatively involved in the project.
With Sanjay Dutt returning as Ballu Balram and Jackie Shroff reprising his iconic role, Khalnayak Returns has already created major excitement among fans. However, makers are still keeping key storyline details under wraps, including whether Madhuri Dixit will return as Ganga in the sequel.
