Desk Correspondent , Kolkata - In an inspiring journey of determination and hard work, young chess player Aronyak Ghosh has become India's 95th Grandmaster, achieving one of the highest honors in the world of chess. Aronyak started playing chess when he was just four. Hailing from Kolkata, Aronyak's journey to the Grandmaster title was not an easy one. His remarkable achievement not only highlighted his personal dedication but also reflects the growth of chess in India, where the players are consistently challenging global standards and bringing recognition to the nation.
Aronyak father was used to play chess casually in his youth, but seeing his son playing bring back his memories of younger days. After seeing Aronyak, his father was also inspired by his son and started playing competitively himself. On 19 April, 2026, Ghosh became the 95th Grandmaster after a noteworthy performance at the 23rd BCC open 2026 in Bangok. Scoring an unbeaten 7/9 with a performance rating of 2584, he secured his third and final GM norm.
It's a very proud and emotional moment for the Ghosh family as Sanchita Ghosh, mother of Aronyak in an interview mentioned that As parents , after leaving everything behind, even setting aside academics, its very important to see him achieving his dreams. Mrinal Ghosh remembers how they used to sell their ancestral properties for their son to chase his dream on the chess board. Ghosh mother said that his mentality has been always different, when he was 10, he realized that prize money is important not the trophies,' the trophies will come'. Sanchita informed that some of the hardest decisions she and Mrinal have to made earlier- when Ghosh was not even an International Master, but when he look them back now, Mrinal glad to make that tough choices and because of that tough calls made by his parents, India got his 95th grandmaster.
