Algerian boxing star Imane Khelif has strongly criticized her former manager for allegedly spreading false rumours about her retirement, calling it an act of betrayal against both her and her country.
Khelif, who recently made headlines for her performances on the international stage, took to social media to clarify that she has no plans of retiring and remains fully committed to her boxing career. She accused her ex-manager of deliberately planting misleading information in the media, which quickly spread and created confusion among her supporters.
“This was a betrayal of my trust and my country. I have sacrificed everything to represent Algeria with pride, and such falsehoods hurt not just me but also the people who believe in me,” Khelif stated.
The 25-year-old boxer has been at the center of global sporting discussions in recent months, following controversies around her eligibility to compete at certain international events. Despite these challenges, she has maintained her focus on training and has reaffirmed her ambition to win more titles for Algeria.
Khelif’s remarks have drawn significant attention in Algeria, where fans and fellow athletes have expressed support for her stance. Sporting authorities in the country have also indicated that they will stand by the boxer and investigate how the misinformation was circulated.
The episode highlights the growing concern among athletes about misinformation and manipulation in professional sports management.
