Heavy Rain Batters Gujarat Thousands Evacuated

Ananya Lohia , Ahmedabad - Relentless rainfall continued to lash south and central Gujarat on Friday, forcing the evacuation of more than 5,100 people as authorities intensified rescue and relief operations across several districts.

The state government issued a red alert for 13 districts, including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Navsari, while eight others remained under an orange alert. More than 5,167 people were shifted to safer locations, with Navsari, Tapi and Surat recording the highest number of evacuations. Rescue teams also saved 11 people from flood-hit areas.

To tackle the situation, 17 NDRF teams, 33 SDRF platoons and six Army columns have been deployed across vulnerable districts. Heavy rainfall was recorded in several parts of the state, while 21 reservoirs remained on high alert, including 13 that had reached or exceeded full capacity.

With heavy rain continuing across Gujarat, authorities remain on high alert as rescue teams work to protect residents and minimise the impact of flooding.
