Ananya Lohia , Delhi - A political row has erupted in Jammu and Kashmir after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah accused the BJP of attempting to lure National Conference (NC) MLAs with cash, ministerial posts and the promise of restoring statehood. The BJP has strongly denied the allegations, calling them "baseless" and demanding proof or an apology.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah alleged that the BJP was trying to topple the National Conference-led government by offering cash, ministerial posts and the promise of statehood to its MLAs. He claimed an NC legislator was offered ₹20–30 crore to switch sides but did not name the MLA or BJP leader involved. Abdullah asserted that no NC MLA would compromise their integrity.
The BJP rejected the allegations, calling them "baseless" and demanded that Omar Abdullah provide evidence or apologise. BJP leaders accused him of diverting attention from governance issues and warned of legal action if no proof was produced. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary defended Abdullah, while the NC reiterated its demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood.
The allegations have triggered a fresh political confrontation in Jammu and Kashmir, with the BJP demanding evidence and the National Conference standing by its claims. The controversy is expected to intensify as both sides remain firm on their positions.
