Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - The IMD has issued red and orange alerts across parts of north and south India as heavy rain continues to disrupt daily life, with Delhi seeing fresh spells of rain and Kerala’s Wayanad placed on red alert after a landslip. In Wayanad, the alert was issued at 12.30 p.m. after a landslip at the Kalladi tunnel project site around 11 a.m., and officials said the situation remained serious.
According to reports, the Wayanad landslip occurred near Meenakshi Bridge at Kalladi, close to the ongoing tunnel road project linking Malappuram and Wayanad districts. The IMD also sounded a red alert in nearby Kozhikode and orange alerts in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod, reflecting the intensity of rainfall across north Kerala. Officials said one person had died in the landslip, seven people were admitted to hospitals and seven others were missing, while nearby residents were being evacuated.
In Maharashtra, rain-related incidents in Palghar district have claimed 10 lives since July 1, according to officials, with three deaths in the previous 24 hours alone. The district administration also said 1,261 residents had been evacuated to relief centres and one person was missing in Dahanu. The figures underline how the monsoon has begun to produce major localized damage in multiple states, with landslides, flooding and evacuations becoming the main concerns.
The latest alerts show that the monsoon is now posing a serious risk across both the National Capital Region and western and southern India. With Wayanad on red alert and Palghar already reporting multiple deaths, authorities are treating the situation as a fast-moving weather emergency.
