Heavy Rains Trigger Building Collapse and Flood Chaos Across India

Ananya Lohia , Delhi - Torrential rains continued to wreak havoc across several parts of India on Wednesday, with an under-construction building collapsing in Delhi's Rohini, widespread flooding disrupting life across the NCR, and multiple rain-related incidents reported from Maharashtra, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh.

In Delhi, at least seven people are feared trapped after an under-construction building collapsed in Rohini. Rescue teams from the Delhi Fire Services rushed to the spot, while two people were rescued by locals and taken to hospital. The India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for Delhi, forecasting more rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds. Heavy rainfall also caused severe waterlogging and traffic congestion across the National Capital Region.

In Gurugram, police advised companies to allow employees to work from home after a section of the Delhi-Jaipur Highway caved in due to incessant rain, forcing the closure of two lanes. Elsewhere, Maharashtra reported multiple rain-related fatalities, including deaths in Palghar and the drowning of three teenagers in Jalgaon. In Kerala, rescue operations are underway after a landslide in Wayanad left three people dead and several others missing, while a cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district damaged bridges and culverts.

With the IMD forecasting continued rainfall in several states, authorities remain on high alert as rescue operations continue and emergency teams work to minimise the impact of the ongoing monsoon.
