Severe flooding and heavy rains have plunged Punjab into a state of crisis, prompting Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to order all educational institutions, including government, private, and university-level establishments, to remain closed until 7 September. The situation is dire across 12 to 13 districts, where rising water levels in the Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej rivers have caused widespread chaos. Many villages have lost connectivity as roads have been destroyed, and schools and universities are submerged.
In response to the devastation, Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal is scheduled to visit Punjab to meet affected families and review the ongoing relief operations. He has issued a national appeal for help, expressing confidence that Punjab will overcome the tragedy. The state government is actively seeking assistance, with AAP MP Sandeep Pathak demanding a ₹10,000 crore relief package from the central government. Support has also come from neighbouring Haryana, whose Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, has ordered the release of ₹5 crore in aid and offered further coordination for relief materials.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of all possible help from the Centre. Furthermore, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is set to tour the affected areas to assess the damage. He has explicitly promised that the central government will provide full compensation to farmers for every single crop lost in the floods, ensuring they will not face any difficulties.
