President Murmu Highlights Growing India–Moldova Partnership During Historic Visit

Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - President Droupadi Murmu, on her first‑ever state visit to Moldova, has described the expanding partnership between India and Moldova as “crucial for the progress, prosperity, and well‑being” of their peoples. Speaking after talks with Moldovan President Maia Sandu in Chisinau, she underlined that the visit marks a historic milestone in bilateral ties and reflects growing friendship and mutual trust between the two countries.

Murmu noted that India and Moldova have shared warm relations for over three decades, guided by a common commitment to peace, development, and international cooperation despite the geographic distance between them. She said the two leaders had reviewed the “entire spectrum” of their partnership and agreed to deepen cooperation in areas that directly impact people’s lives, including trade, investments, supply chains, and connectivity. Economic cooperation, she stressed, is now an important pillar, with both sides agreeing to work together in sectors such as agriculture, logistics and infrastructure, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and innovation.

Calling education and capacity building “strong pillars” of India–Moldova ties, the President announced that India would double ITEC training slots for Moldovan professionals, including specialised courses in AI and emerging technologies, and invite Moldovan diplomats for cyber‑diplomacy and AI programmes at India’s Foreign Service Institute. She also highlighted growing cooperation under the International Solar Alliance and expressed hope that Moldova would join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and the Global Biofuels Alliance. On wider regional and global issues, Murmu said both countries reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace, dialogue, respect for international law, and to working together on common global challenges reiterating India’s long‑standing stance that disputes must be resolved through diplomacy rather than conflict.

By framing India–Moldova cooperation as essential to “progress, prosperity, and well‑being,” President Murmu used her historic visit to signal that ties are moving beyond symbolism toward concrete collaboration in economics, technology, education, and clean energy. The commitments announced in Chisinau lay a foundation for a more substantive partnership, positioning Moldova as a meaningful Eastern European partner in India’s wider diplomatic outreach.
