New Delhi
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Mohammad Dilshad, 52, who had been absconding for 26 years following an alleged murder in Saudi Arabia in October 1999. Dilshad was apprehended at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, on August 11, as he arrived from Madinah via Jeddah.
Dilshad, a heavy motor mechanic and security guard, allegedly murdered a person at his workplace in Riyadh before fleeing to India. He evaded capture by acquiring a new identity and passport through deceptive means, which enabled him to travel internationally, including to Qatar and Kuwait.
The CBI registered a local prosecution case in April 2022 at the request of Saudi Arabian authorities. Despite an initial Look Out Circular, Dilshad remained elusive. However, the agency developed technical leads and human intelligence to detect his new passport, leading to a fresh LOC. Unaware of this, Dilshad was taken into custody upon his arrival. He was sent to judicial custody on August 14, and further investigation is underway.
