A shocking incident has emerged from Nayagarh district in Odisha, where a 12-year-old madrasa student was found murdered after being subjected to sexual abuse for nearly a year. Police investigations revealed that five classmates, all minors, had been assaulting him repeatedly. When the boy resisted and threatened to inform his parents, he was strangled to death.
The child had gone missing from the madrasa premises, and his body was later recovered from an abandoned septic tank. Investigators said the accused dumped the body to make it appear like a disappearance. Disturbingly, this was not the first attempt on his life. Just days earlier, the accused boys had tried to push him into a toilet tank, causing a head injury, but the victim remained silent out of fear.
Police questioned several students and identified a 15-year-old as the mastermind behind the crime. The other accused admitted their involvement during interrogation. The Juvenile Court has sent all five boys to a juvenile home for 13 days.
The role of the madrasa authorities is also being questioned. The victim’s family alleged that the administration failed to cooperate when they sought CCTV footage after the boy went missing. Authorities reportedly delayed providing information, raising concerns about negligence.
The case has highlighted growing worries about child safety in residential institutions and the urgent need for stronger protection mechanisms for vulnerable students.
