Bengaluru, August 31, 2025 – The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has projected an annual wage bill of ₹137 crore while highlighting the need to recruit nearly 1,200 additional staff to strengthen its operations.
According to official estimates, the authority currently functions with limited manpower, affecting service delivery across departments. The new staffing proposal aims to improve efficiency in areas such as infrastructure maintenance, public health, and waste management.
Officials stated that the demand for more personnel is linked to the city’s rapid growth and the increasing pressure on civic systems. The authority is expected to present the staffing plan to the state government, seeking approval for phased recruitment.
The wage bill projection covers salaries, allowances, and benefits for existing and proposed employees. Analysts noted that while the financial burden is significant, the move could help address Bengaluru’s recurring civic challenges, including traffic congestion and sanitation gaps.
The proposal also comes at a time when the GBA is under public scrutiny for delays in executing key projects. Civic experts believe that increasing workforce strength could help improve accountability and delivery standards.
The state government is likely to review the proposal before allocating funds in the upcoming budget session
