A suspected poacher was killed during a crossfire with forest guards in Assam's Kaziranga National Park on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. The incident occurred around 2:50 a.m. when a river patrol team from the Burapahar Range detected suspicious activity near Maite Tapu and confronted a group of armed individuals. Upon being challenged, the poachers opened fire, prompting the guards to return fire in self-defense.
Following the exchange, additional forces were deployed to the area. A subsequent search led to the discovery of an unconscious individual, who was later declared dead at a local hospital. A .303 rifle and a handbag were recovered from the site. The identity of the deceased remains unknown, as no identification documents were found.
